Affordable Luxury: Inside the 2025 Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo

The 2025 Kia K4 is the South Korean manufacturer’s newest compact sedan, designed to compete with the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra and Subaru Impreza. Competition is stiff, but the K4 makes a strong case for itself. It has smart styling, an upscale interior and a host of technologies at an affordable price.

Styling

The K4 GT-Line Turbo makes a great first impression with a bold style showcasing Kia’s “Opposites United” design language. It’s fresh, sleek and unique. The K4 is handsome and its interior looks far more expensive than its price suggests.

At a beginning price of less than $30,000, Kia has done an admirable job making what might be expected as a basic cabin feel premium.

During my week with the car, the K4 received several compliments. One passerby referred to it as a “fancy car.”

Comfort and Appointments

Interior spaciousness is a highlight. Despite classified as a compact, the K4 feels decidedly midsized. There’s ample legroom and headroom, making it one of the roomier options in its segment.

The seats are comfortable, with heating and ventilation options, and there are many convenience features like wireless charging (though frustratingly slow) and multiple USB ports.

The panoramic sunroof adds an airy feel, and the handsome upholstery and accent lighting contribute to a refined cabin atmosphere.

Technology

Kia has packed the K4 with a long list of features, many typically reserved for higher-end vehicles. The infotainment system boasts a responsive touchscreen and dedicated HVAC controls. The Harman Kardon sound system delivers impressive quality for a car in this class. Audiophiles may find it lacking, but it’s far from the tinny-sounding factory systems of decades past.

Safety tech is another strong suit. The K4 GT-Line comes with a full suite of driver aids, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure assistance, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The adaptive cruise system is excellent, matching the performance of Kia’s more expensive models. It’s one of the best adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping systems I’ve driven. It virtually drives itself and requires only that the driver keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. It makes driving in heavy traffic nearly stress-free.

Performance and Economy

The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine produces 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Typical of Kia, The K4 is tuned to feel more powerful than it is, delivering strong initial acceleration. However, at higher speeds, it loses steam, making highway passing less confident. But make no mistake: the K4 GT-Line is no slouch. I learned to exploit a sweet spot in the power band where power comes on strong.

The continuously variable transmission (CVT) is well-calibrated and feels like a traditional torque converter automatic. At highway speeds, the engine turns about 2,900 RPM, with throttle response remaining decent.

EPA fuel economy estimates 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway. I observed 30.4 mpg over about 500 miles of mostly highway driving.

Steering Feel

While the K4 impresses in many areas, steering feels heavy and numb, offering little road feel. Sport mode sharpens the ratio, but doesn’t fix the fundamental disconnect. The result is a driving experience that feels artificial—more like a video game controller with force feedback.
For driving enthusiasts this may be a deal-breaker. The Honda Civic has superior steering feel and engagement. While the K4 stays flat in corners and feels well-disciplined, lack of steering feedback makes it hard to enjoy.

Refinement

Despite shortcomings in steering feel, the K4 excels in ride quality and quietness. The cabin is exceptionally hushed, with virtually nonexistent wind noise and minimal tire noise. Overall, the car delivers a smooth, comfortable ride.

Value

The 2025 Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo is an excellent value. The base MSRP is $28,090 with the GT-Line package adding $2,200 for an as-tested price of $31,445 including destination. This makes the Kia K4 one of the lowest-priced compact sedans on the American market.

Verdict

The K4 offers premium styling, a well-equipped and handsomely appointed interior, strong safety features, a comfortable ride and commendable efficiency. The Honda Civic may be a better choice for driving enthusiasts, but the K4 is an excellent value and particularly relaxing to drive in traffic. The adaptive cruise control is the K4’s strong suit making the 2025 Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo a solid choice as a daily driver. https://www.kia.com/us/en
