Ford Mustang Celebrates 60th Anniversary

On April 17, 1964, the Mustang was officially unveiled at the New York World’s Fair in the Ford Pavilion.  The day the revolutionary pony car made its grand debut, the Mustang went on sale at Ford dealerships throughout the country. The base price was an affordable $2,368 which translates to approximately $23,000 dollars today. Some 22,000 Mustangs were sold on that first day and 418,000 were sold in the first year, which was an auto industry record. Crosstown rivals over at GM took notice. The very next year GM announced the Camaro, thus launching the longest-lived rivalry in automotive history.
